Foundation in Scripture
We ground our mission, vision, and core values in the truth of God’s Word, the Bible.
First, we can see the specific importance of reading and understanding God’s truth in His Word in Nehemiah 8:1-9. There is such respect for reading the truth in the Word of God. We use this as a foundational passage for KetongBaca, to guide our emphasis on the ultimate purpose of literacy – reading truth about God in the Word of God, leading us to worship Him and know Him better. Nehemiah 8 includes rich descriptions of the beauty of reading God's Word:

...they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses that the Lord had commanded Israel. So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could understand what they heard...

...And he read from it facing the square before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women and those who could understand. And the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law...
...And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
...They read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.

In addition, Scripture calls us more generally to a clear mission to serve others:

Hebrews 13:16: Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Acts 20:35: In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

We can therefore build a clear foundation from God's Word, that helping others toward literacy, toward the reading and understanding of truth, and ultimately toward Christ, the One who is the Truth, will help us and them to worship God, to please God, and to glorify His name.
